Education
Hanna completed her PhD in Entomology in 2023 and MS in Agroecology in 2020, both at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Her work focused on agroecological pest management (testing plastic mulches as a management practice for spotted-wing drosophila), and she got to grow (and eat) a lot of raspberries. Hanna’s favorite part about graduate school was leading Entomology’s graduate student association, building community among graduate students, and working to make her community more inclusive by leading groups addressing field safety, communication, and mentoring.
Research Interests
Hanna is an agroecologist and entomologist who loves working on projects that benefit communities! She is a project manager for two grant-funded projects that support Tribal partners in research centering Indigenous food systems and she also coordinates Indigenous cropping systems research across those projects. Hanna is interested in research centered in community that is transdisciplinary and participatory.
Personal Interests
Hanna grew up in Oregon, and loves living in Wisconsin but misses the mountains, early spring, and non-humid summers. Hanna enjoys being outside hiking, running, biking, reading on the porch, or looking at plants and insects. She spends a lot of time resting, reading, cooking, gardening, and snuggling with her cat Bean. Hanna also loves crafts of all sorts including drawing, watercolor, knitting, weaving, and linocut printing.
