About

Organic crop, vegetable, livestock, and dairy production are significant contributors to Wisconsin’s agricultural systems and economy. Second in the nation in the number of organic farms, Wisconsin continues to be a leader in the organic industry. The University of Wisconsin Organic and Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension program, led by Dr. Erin Silva, strives to support organic farmers and their families through its research and outreach efforts. With a farmer-first approach, the lab seeks solutions that are both environmentally sustainable and financially viable.

In addition to advancing organic research, Dr. Silva also directs several affiliated groups and initiatives. Check out some of our other groups like the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems, Organic Grain Resource and Information Network (OGRAIN), and UW Organic Collaborative.
